Galloway Cottage sleeps five; gardens; views and wildlife

Burnside Cottage is a 19th century farm workers’ house. Built in the 1850s, our family bought the bungalow in 1970 and restored it. We have been visiting ever since. The holiday cottage sits in a tranquil valley, amid rolling green fields about a mile from the sea and within easy reach of sandy beaches and rocky coves. There are no other houses nearby. It will be just you, the wildlife and the view.

The house is in a half-acre site and fully enclosed. The front garden is a natural wilderness; great for hide-and-seek. At the back we have a patio, barbecue and table where we sit out and and enjoy a glass of wine, picnics and dinner. Inside, there are double, twin and single bedrooms. The kitchen and living room are open plan. There is a log burning stove to take off the chill on cool evenings with free wood and WiFi.

The cottage is an area known locally as ‘The Machars’, a peninsula that stretches south of Netwon Stewart and into the Solway. Burnside is way out west in old Galloway, 50 miles from Dumfries and a few miles from the picturesque fishing village of the Isle of Whithorn and ancient Christian site of Whithorn.

In Galloway we found something that everyone enjoyed...and Burnside is a charming, cosy cottage
